Girl drowns in Begusarai

Begusarai: A girl, Sundari Devi alias Muskan (17), met watery grave while Mannu Devi (24) was feared drowned in the Ganga river while taking bath at Simaria Ghat under Chakia police station area of the district on Saturday. Both were relatives and residents of a village under Bishnupur police station area of Darbhanga district.

Lakshman Mahto, a relative of the victims, said the incident took place early morning. “Several of my relatives and co-villagers had reached Simaria Ghat on Saturday to take a holy dip in the Ganga river following the demise of my mother 15 days ago at our village in Darbhanga. It started raining and a strong wind was also blowing when Sundari and Mannu ventured into the river. They were swept away by the current,” he said.

Local drivers later fished out the body of Sundari Devi. However, the search for the body of Mannu Devi was still going on till the afternoon.
