Five criminals held, murder bid foiled

Aurangabad: With the arrest of five notorious criminals, the district police claimed to have foiled the murder of a reputed jeweller of Rafiganj locality, about 35 km from here. If Rafiganj police are to be believed, some criminals had assembled in the locality and were planning to gun down a jeweller. Acting on a tip-off, a police team led by DSP (probationer) Summit Kumar carried out raid at different places at Rafiganj and arrested five criminals. Police said the plan was being hatched at the instance of a criminal Amit Kumar, currently lodged in Sherghati jail in connection with the much-publicised kidnapping case of a doctor couple from Gaya. Aurangabad SP Babu Ram said timely police action foiled the plan of criminals. “Two country-made pistols, five cartridges, 20 sachets of country- made liquor, five cellphones besides a four-wheeler have been recovered from the possession of the arrested criminals,” said the SP. He said police are keeping an eye on the activities of jailed criminals so that they could not contact anybody inside or outside the prison and hatch a conspiracy. Police said the arrested criminals have been identified as Aslam Khan, Sunil Ram, Ajay Kumar, Lalan Thakur and Rahul Kumar Singh. While both Ajay and Aslam have criminal antecedents and have been jailed earlier also in connection with loot cases. “We would request the court for speedy trial of the case,” said police
