DJ operator shot dead over old enmity in Darbhanga

Patna: Unidentified assailants shot dead a 24-year-old DJ operator over an old dispute in the Bajitpur police station area of Darbhanga district on Wednesday night. The incident took place near Ruhi Chowk on the Achalpuri–Narha road when the victim was returning from his maternal home in Narha village.

According to police, the deceased was identified as Vinod Mahto alias Bachcha Babu, son of Satyanarayan Mahto, a resident of Achalpur village under Bahera police station area. Family members said Vinod had gone to his maternal home earlier in the day and was on his way back when criminals, allegedly lying in ambush on a deserted stretch of the road, opened fire, killing him on the spot.

On being informed, family members reached the spot and alerted the police. A police team rushed to the spot, recovered a shell casing and sent the body to Darbhanga Medical College Hospital for post-mortem. After the examination, the body was handed over to the family, the police said.

Benipur sub-divisional police officer (SDPO) Basukinath Jha said preliminary investigation suggested the murder may have been linked to an old dispute. “An FSL team has collected evidence from the spot. CCTV footage from nearby areas is being scanned to identify the assailants, who will be arrested soon,” he said.

Vinod worked as a DJ operator and was also a pick-up van driver by profession. He is survived by his wife Chandni Devi, two-year-old daughter Ananya, mother Sumitra Devi and other family members.
