PATNA: The number of daily Covid-19 cases continues to increase in the state with 40 more people testing positive for the virus in the last 24 hours. The state was at 17th position in the country on Thursday as far as daily caseload is concerned.

On June 12, Bihar was at the 20th position and in next three days (on Wednesday) it became top 15 states having the highest number of cases reported in a day.

As per the data shared by the Union government on Thursday, Maharashtra was at the top among 36 states and union territories with 4,024 new cases registered in a day, while four other states and union territories had no new cases on Thursday. Meanwhile, five states registered Covid-19 cases in single digit on Thursday.

Madhya Pradesh and Andhra Pradesh were just above Bihar with 57 and 53 new cases, respectively. Uttarakhand and Jammu & Kashmir were below it with 26 and 25 cases, respectively, while Himachal Pradesh had the same 40 cases like Bihar.

As per the data shared by the state health department, as on Thursday, there were 178 active cases in the state with maximum 117 in Patna. Of the 40 new cases, 20 were from Patna followed by Aurangabad where five people were tested positive and Jehanabad with three new cases.

During the day, two Covid-19 positive patients were undergoing treatment at AIIMS-Patna.

Hospital’s nodal incharge Dr Sanjeev Kumar said one patient was an 84-year-old man, who was diabetic and had hypertension. He was admitted to the hospital five days back. Another one was a 10-year-old child, who had juvenile diabetes and was admitted three days back.

Dr Kumar further said two nursing staff and an intern had also tested positive a couple of days back and all were isolated.
