PATNA: A state BJP delegation called on governor Rajendra Vishwanath Arlekar on Monday and reiterated its demand for a high-level inquiry by a sitting Patna high court judge into the communal clashes that occurred at Sasaram and Biharsharif during Ram Navami festivities on March 31.

The BJP delegation, led by the party's state chief Samrat Chaudhary and leader of opposition in the state assembly Vijay Kumar Sinha, submitted a memorandum of its demands to the governor.

As per the memorandum, they demanded that a high-level committee headed by a sitting judge of the high court should probe the violence that took place at Sasaram and Biharsharif.

It noted that the probe by such a committee will expose the Popular Front of India (PFI) and its members who indulge in terror activities, besides those who give them protection.

The memorandum pointed out that stones were pelted on the Ram Navami processions at the two places. Besides, action has been taken against the Nalanda district convener of the Bajrang Dal, even as he had taken permission from the district administration to take out the Ram Navami procession at Biharsharif.

That apart, the Sasaram police arrested the former BJP local MLA Jawahar Prasad without giving him any reason for it, while Prasad accused the PFI members of disturbing the Ram Navami procession there, the memorandum has mentioned.

The other senior BJP lawmakers from the state assembly and legislative council who were part of the delegation included former deputy CMs Tar Kishore Prasad and Renu Devi, former ministers Nand Kishore Yadav, Prem Kumar and Janak Ram, former legislative council acting chairman Awadhesh Narayan Singh, as well as Janak Singh, Nawal Kishore Yadav and Nivedita Singh.
