3 in fray for PUTA president post

Patna: Six teachers on Saturday withdrew their candidatures from the Patna University Teachers’ Association elections scheduled for July 17. Now there are altogether 17 candidates contesting for seven key offices of the association. Interestingly, all the candidates who had filed their nominations for PUTA executive membership from different constituencies were declared elected unopposed. Four posts of executive members remained vacant as no nomination was filed for them.

There is a triangular contest for the post of president. Those in fray are Shashi Bhushan Rai of PG mathematics department, Abhay Kumar, the sitting general secretary, and Manoj Prabhakar of economics department. For two posts of vice-presidents, there are four contestants. They are Kumar Satyendra Yadav of the statistics department, Kameshwar Pandit of PMIR department, Sheo Sagar Prasad of psychology department, and Saroj Sinha of economics department. There are three contestants for the post of general secretary. They are Akhilesh Kumar Gupta of physics department, Suheli Mehta of Magadh Mahila College and Vibhas Ranjan of B N College. There is a straight contest for the post of treasurer. The contestants are Md Ziul Hassan of philosophy department and Deep Narayan Kumar of education department.As many as five teachers are contesting for two posts of joint secretaries. They are Shekhar of Patna Science College, Suppan Prasad Singh of Vanijya Mahavidyalaya, Namrata of Magadh Mahila College, Amrita of Patna Women’s College and Birendra Kumar of Patna Law College. Those elected to the PUTA executive unopposed include Sovan Chakravarty and Priyanka Sharma (Patna Science College), Prem Shankar Jha and Deependra Kishor Arya (Patna College), Jyoti Chandra and Awadhesh Kumar (Patna Women’s College), Manidh Kumar Verma (Magadh Mahila College), Prem Prakash Pankaj (commerce), Supriya Krishnan and Sudhir Kumar (social sciences), Ramesh Kumar (humanities), Bhavuk Sharma and Kumar Satyendra Yadav (PG science), Deep Narayan Kumar (education) and Ravindra Kumar (law). B N College and College of Arts and Crafts would remain unrepresented as no teacher filed nomination from these two constituencies, said chief returning officer Parimal Kumar Khan.
