Vehicle buyers to get registration certificate via post only from May 1

will now get their

registration certificate

(RC) via post from May 1 and not in hand as the

transport department

has decided to stop the arrangement from the next month.

According to instructions issued by the transport commissioner

K Ravindra Naik

to RTOs and assistant

regional transport officers

(ARTOs) of all districts last week, applicants who want to get an RC made will have to submit a stamped envelope to the department along with other documents required.

Transport department officials say that almost 95 per cent of applicants who apply for the RC come through the car/bike agency from whom they buy their vehicles.

The department has already issued notices to such agencies in the district, instructing them to submit the stamped envelope for the concerned applicant.

“Most applicants seeking an RC come through the agency and not themselves. However, those applicants seeking fancy numbers for the vehicles come directly to the department. They should now come with the stamped envelope as they will get the RC via post,” ARTO

While an applicant usually gets an RC within three-four days of applying, it might take around almost a week for getting the same via post.

Officials point out that the agencies selling the vehicles commit to deliver the RC to the applicant within 20 days.

“Sometimes, an applicant arrives at the department and expresses surprise to see that they can get their RC within three days. They say that the agencies tell them that the procedure will take 20 days,” Yaduvanshi said.

Presently, the DL is also sent to the applicant via post but there is no requirement of the envelope and the latter has to deposit Rs. 40 for getting the DL delivered at his home.
