Probe throws up several questions

GHAZIABAD: Despite the arrest of four attackers on Wednesday, UP police officers said several questions remain unanswered in the investigation into the murderous attack on BJP leader Brijpal

Teotia

. Inspector-General (Meerut Range) Sujeet Pandey said in Ghaziabad that teams are scouring across UP and other neighbouring states to find evidence that could piece together the entire sequence of events.

UP police had begun their investigations into the attack on Teotia from four different angles. Apart from a perceived old enmity of Teotia being the possible motive behind the attack, police were also examining the case from the angles of property dispute, settling of political scores or as one resulting from a family dispute.

Pandey said police were trying to gather all evidence possible to make it a water-tight case for the police. “We are exploring the possibility of a wider conspiracy behind the attack. The police are trying to ascertain as to who financed the attackers,” he said.

An important part of the investigation pertains to where the attackers procured the AK-47 rifle from. “Forensic tests have revealed that five different weapons had been used in the attacks. The accused have told cops that six of them inside the Fortuner were carrying weapons,” Pandey said.

Efforts are still underway to determine how the Fortuner looted from Gurgaon landed in the net of the attackers. Police said all weapons recovered would be sent to the forensic lab for tests. The sample of the mobile phone audio clips retrieved by cops will also be sent for voice recognition analysis.

An FIR pertaining to the incident had been registered in Muradnagar police station on August 12. Relevant sections of the Gangster Act and National Security Act will be also be invoked against the accused in the FIR, the police said.
