Police go to gangster’s village, come under siege in Noida
NOIDA: Days after the Kanpur Dehat ambush of a UP
A video recorded by the villagers of Bombavad showed the cops — one man and three women — clearly intimidated and on the back foot. The villagers alleged that the cops were trying to seize a vehicle that had been given to Chandrapal’s family as gift in a wedding.
It was around 3am on Monday that the team of four cops knocked on the doors of Chandrapal’s house. The gangster was not at home, and the cops started questioning his family members about his wherabouts.
As there was a commotion, villagers from the neighbourhood gathered around the gangster’s house.
“We got this vehicle as gift in a wedding and they are trying to seize it. The police team arrived in the village around 3am. The entire village has gathered here and everyone knows that we got this vehicle in a wedding. They are framing us in a false case,” a man recording the video can be heard saying.
When the camera is turned towards the only male constable, he covers his name badge with his hand, amid cries by villagers asking his name. As the villagers push him around, the constable says, “How is this forceful? Let the seniors come.”
One of the female cops then asks the villagers how they can touch a policeman on duty like this. Armed with just a stick, the male cop then makes a phone call, possibly to his seniors.
Senior police officers described it as only “a visit” to the gangster’s house to verify details of his property. Later, a larger force reached the village and attached two buses belonging to Chandrapal. Two of the villagers were arrested, too.
DCP (central Noida) Harish Chander ruled out a raid. “This was not a raid, but only a visit to the accused’s village for verifying the property. It is an internal procedure of the police to check if the gangster is in the house or not. The raid was carried out later and two buses were seized from the spot. The SUV (which led to the chaos early in the morning) was not seized,” he added.
Pathneesh Yadav, the SHO of Badalpur police station, said they had booked 33 people — six named and the rest unknown — under IPC sections 188 (disobedience to order duly promulgated by public servant), 147 (punishment for rioting), 353 (assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty) and 506 (criminal intimidation).
The six persons named in the FIR are gangster Chandrapal’s wife Suresh, his son Nitish and Ankit, Adesh, Pawan, Rupesh.
Pawan and Rupesh have been arrested. They said Chandrapal had fled the village before the cops arrived.
