Ghaziabad to send fresh proposal for smart city mission by Oct 31

GHAZIABAD: A new smart city proposal for Ghaziabad is being formulated for participation in the fourth and final round of the mission that has been launched by the Union government. The proposal will be sent by

to the urban development ministry by October 31.

A total of 19 cities, including Ghaziabad, will compete in the final round of the mission. The Centre had decided to develop 100 cities in the country under the

Smart City Mission

, launched in 2015. So far, 90 cities have been selected in the first three rounds of the mission.

“We are taking extreme care to develop the new proposal for the fourth round as this is the last chance for Ghaziabad to compete in the race. Only 10 cities will be shortlisted in the final round. The new proposal will be formulated by modifying certain aspects of the proposal that had been sent to the Centre for participation in the third round. Certain shortcomings in the proposal had been pointed out by the urban development ministry. We will be ironing out those issues in the new proposal,” said a senior GMC official.

A fresh estimate of the budget is likely to be drawn up for the new proposal. A sum of Rs 2,901 crore had been estimated for the proposal prepared for the third round of the mission that included expenditures to be incurred on both components of the plan — Area-Based Development and Pan-City Solutions.

Officials said the new proposal will be technically vetted by the Lucknow-based Regional Center for Urban & Environmental Studies following which a high-powered committee of the state government will clear the proposal. A total number of 13 cities from UP have been included in the list of 90 cities so far identified for development under the Smart City Mission.
