Farmers do asanas to mark protest

GREATER NOIDA/GHAZIABAD: Farmers belonging to

Bhartiya Kisan Union

(BKU) performed yogasanas at different locations in GB Nagar district —

Pari Chowk

in Greater Noida, Dadri and Sadar tehsil — as well as Ghaziabad and western UP to draw the government’s attention to their situation.

Members of BKU assembled at Pari Chowk and performed yoga on mats to mark their protest at the busy intersection, resulting in a traffic jam. The protest was in response to the call by their national leader Naresh Tikait for a token two-hour protest yoga session from 9-11am on all busy roads of western UP. Another wing of BKU held a protest yoga session next to the DM’s camp office in Sector 19.

In Ghaziabad, a group of farmers arrived with tractors and numerous vehicles and blocked Hapur Road on Wednesday morning and performed yoga right in the middle of the road. The traffic police, who claimed they had given no prior permission to the group, placed a diversion and re-routed vehicles for over one hour till the protest yoga session was on.
