7 injured as Roadways bus rams Mercedes that braked hard
NOIDA: A UP Roadways bus collided with a Mercedes car at the base of the Hindon flyover near the zero point of the Noida Expressway on Thursday afternoon, leaving at least 7 people injured.
According to police, Raghav Gupta was headed to his factory in Phase 2 in his Mercedes while the bus was going from Agra to Sarai Kale Khan.
It is suspected that the Mercedes driver overtook a vehicle, but couldn’t see the flyover’s fence and braked hard to avoid it. The bus, behind the car, did not have the time and space to slow down, and crashed into the car. Consequently, the car hit the railing and the impact sent it off the road into a small ditch. The chassis of the bus was also mangled.
Five bus passengers sustained minor injuries and both the drivers were rushed to Jaypee Hospital in the city. “Both of them are admitted and their condition is stable,” hospital officials said.
“We received a call about the accident at 12.52pm on Thursday. A team from the Knowledge Park police station rushed to the spot. A Mercedes-Benz had fallen off the railing while the Roadways bus was on top of the railing. Raghav Gupta and bus driver Nisaar Khan, a resident of Agra, were rushed to a hospital. The passengers had minor injuries and left the spot before cops arrived,” said Arvind Kumar, ACP -1, Greater Noida.
According to eyewitnesses, the Mercedes driver overtook a vehicle and couldn’t see the flyover railing. “Gupta had to hit the brakes, and that’s when the bus rammed into the car,” the ACP said. Police have not received any complaint related to the accident.
A team of traffic cops on Thursday got the vehicles cleared off the road to avoid any congestion in the area. Traffic was back to normal within 15-20 minutes of the accident.
