NAVI MUMBAI: The Khopoli unit of Raigad police has seized over 175kg of mephedrone (MD) drug worth Rs 218 crore from a godown in Hanor village, about 1.5 km away from Dheku village close to Mumbai-Pune Expressway.

This is the second big seizure after MD weighing over 85kg worth Rs 107 crore was seized last Thursday. So far, 260kg of MD collectively worth Rs 325 crore has been seized. These drugs have been exported to various countries through the Jawaharlal Nehru Port Authority, Nhava Sheva, Uran taluka.

A police team led by IGP-Konkan range Pravin Pawar inspected the company premises on Monday afternoon, before making the announcement. A police source said, "One of the accused, Anthony Kurukutikaran (54), was convicted in a Narcotics Control Bureau case in Mumbai. The possibility of an international link is being tracked. The operation was done from a tin sheet covered plant and godown."

"Few other company staffers are being questioned in the drug racket. The forensic lab report was taken to confirm the contraband drug. All protocols are followed. All Konkan range police superintendents are keeping track on contraband drugs," said Pawar. So far, the Khopoli police have booked Kamal Jaiswani, Matin Shaikh and Anthony Kurukutikaran under the Narcotic Drugs and Psychotropic Substances Act-1985.
