Addressing reporters here on Saturday, Satyajeet Tambe, and his father, sitting MLC of the constituency Dr Sudhir Tambe, said they are reaching out to the voters in five districts of Nashik, Ahmednagar, Dhule, Jalgaon and Nandurbar to garner support. However, the Tambes refused to respond to queries on whether they have sought support from the BJP for the polls, if they would be joining the party and if there has been any attempt by the BJP to talk to them.

“We will not speak about our suspension or any other political issue at this juncture. Our current focus is on winning the MLC polls. We will speak on political issues at an appropriate time and at an appropriate place,” said Satyajeet Tambe.

Congress had recently suspended the father-son duo following the controversy over filing nomination for the MLC polls. Although Congress had renominated Dr Tambe as the party candidate for the polls, he did not file his nomination. The central party high command suspended Dr Tambe pending an inquiry.

Satyajeet Tambe filed his nomination as an independent following which, the state Congress suspended him from the party for six years saying it was a violation of the party’s discipline.

Satyajeet Tambe is the former state youth Congress president. The Tambes are also close relatives of former state Congress president Balasaheb Thorat.

Shubhangi Patil, an independent contestant, who has now got the support of all three Maharashtra Vikas Aghadi (MVA) parties, had gone to Thorat’s residence in Sangamner on Friday to seek his support. However, there was nobody home, and Patil had to return empty-handed.

When asked about the incident, Satyajeet Tambe said that he had no idea what other candidates were doing and he was focused only on contesting the election.
