Nashik: The Nashik Rural police have received approval of the Afghan embassy to send the body of Afghan refugee Ahmed Zarif Chisti to his home country.
“The body, which was kept in cold storage facility in Nashik ever since his murder on July 5, will be sent to the J J Hospital in Mumbai, from where the embassy would take up the procedure of sending Chisti’s body to his home country for burial,” said SP Sachin Patil.
The body would be sent from Nashik to Mumbai in a day or two, said the Nashik Rural SP.
Chisti was shot dead in Yeola on July 5. The Nashik Rural police have arrested four suspects in connection with the murder case and have stated that he was killed over property.
Chisti, who had come to India about four years back and was given a refugee status, used to perform religious rites and give religious discourses through which he had amassed wealth to the tune of over Rs 3 crore.
He used to reside in Sinnar taluka since the last two years. Initially, he stayed in Delhi and then in Karnataka before shifting to Sinnar.
After his death, the Nashik Rural police were in constant communication with the Afghan embassy with respect to the burial of his body.
