Poll officials reach booths, all in place for voting today
Nashik: The district administration is optimistic about an improvement in the polling percentage in the Nashik and Dindori Lok Sabha constituencies, which are going to the polls on Monday.Nashik district collector Jalaj Sharma said, “A lot of awareness activities have been carried out by the officials, along with the participation of citizens, including professionals. This will definitely help in increasing the voting percentage when compared to the previous elections.” The voter turnout in Nashik and Dindori parliamentary constituencies in 2019 was 59.52% and 65.7%, respectively. The polling parties, each comprising three polling officials and a presiding officer, on Sunday packed their voting kits, including ballot units, VVPAT machinery and other items, and proceeded to their designated polling stations. As many as 29,665 polling personnel are involved in conducting these polls. “All teams have been dispatched on time from all places, and they have reached their destinations. Not a single polling station is inaccessible by road,” another senior officer of the district administration said. Divisional commissioner of Nashik, Radhakrishna Game, on Sunday appealed to voters in Nashik and Dhule to come out and vote. “Monday is not a holiday. Instead, it is the time provided by govt to people to participate in the festival of elections. It is expected that everyone will go and cast their ballot and fulfil their national responsibility,” Game said. Dindori’s returning officer, Babasaheb Pardhe, also appealed to voters to visit the polling station with their family members and friends and participate in the festival of democracy. The district administration hopes the poll percentage to increase by at least 3%. The total number of voters in Nashik is 20.03 lakh. There are 18.41 lakh voters in Dindori. As many as 31 candidates are in fray in Nashik. In Dindori, 10 contenders are contesting. There are a total of 4,800 polling booths across the district, including Nashik and Dindori seats, and three assembly segments of Dhule Lok Sabha seat. Nashik constituency has 1,910 polling stations and Dindori has 1,922. Pilot project in Nashik Nashik district administration will carry out a pilot project to provide the voters of select polling stations in Nashik Central assembly constituency the exact number of voters standing in queue. Nashik ZP CEO Ashima Mittal said that a CCTV network has been installed at these 25 polling stations and using software, image processing will give the exact number of voters in queue. This number will be flashed on the dashboard of a web portal, which can be accessed by anybody by logging on to www.nashikelections.com.
