No breakthrough yet in Jamkhed firing that grievously injured criminal on police records Sagar Moholkar
Nashik: The Jamkhed police are yet to make any arrests or establish the motive behind Wednesday evening's firing, in which wrestler-turned-criminal Sagar Moholkar was grievously injured, in this town of Ahilyanagar district. Moholkar, who has five criminal cases to his name, including two murders, walked out of prison on bail in Jan. He made the headlines when he publicly slapped Pune gangster Nilesh Ghaywal at a wrestling event at Andarud village in Dharashiv district on April 11, 2025, during a quarrel. The Dharashiv police then registered a case against Moholkar. "Around 7.30pm on Wednesday (March 4), two men on a bike, with their faces covered, fired seven rounds at Moholkar at Noorani Colony in Jamkhed while he was going to his home on foot," inspector Dashrath Chaudhary of the Jamkhed police said. "Four of the bullets hit Moholkar in his neck, chest, stomach and back. The remaining three missed the target. He was admitted to a hospital in Ahilyanagar district before being shifted to another hospital in Pune where he is recuperating from his injuries and is now in a stable condition," Chaudhary added. The police are yet to record Moholkar's statement considering that he is recovering from his injuries. "Based on CCTV footage, which shows two masked men firing at the victim, and the clues gathered from our investigation so far, we have identified the assailants and have deployed five teams to trace and nab them. A clearer picture about the motive behind the attack would be known once we arrest these suspects," Chaudhary said and preferred not to elaborate the details of the identified assailants. Chaudhary said the police were investigating all possible angles behind the attack, including the likelihood of a money dispute or a past rivalry, considering that Moholkar is known to be short tempered and prone to picking up arguments frequently. "He is also involved in past cases of extortion, attempted murder and assault," the police officer said. A case relating to offences under Section 109 (attempted murder) and section 3 read with 25 of the Arms Act has been registered in connection with the firing incident.
