Man dies after being beaten up on suspicion of being child lifter in Jalgaon

Nashik: A 30-year-old died early on Tuesday morning after residents of Avhane village in Jalgaon, suspecting the man to be a child lifter, beat him up on Monday eveningJalgaon superintendent of police Maheshwar Reddy said, "The man, whose identity is yet to be established, was seen by villagers walking with a three-year-old boy from the village at 8pm on Monday. Suspecting him to be a child lifter, the people gathered around and thrashed him."A case of murder under section 103 (1) has been registered, and five men, all residents of Avhane, have been arrested, Reddy added.Police personnel had registered a complaint against the five accused at the Jalgaon taluka police station."Suspecting him to be a child lifter, people, without checking about him or informing the police, started beating him. Avhane village sarpanch Pintu Patil called up the police, who reached the spot only to find the man bleeding profusely," said a police officer from Jalgaon taluka police station.The police took him to a govt hospital where he succumbed to his injuries early on Tuesday morning.According to the police, the deceased man was probably from the Hindi-speaking belt, as he was just able to murmur some words. As of now, the police have no clue about what he was doing in the village. Investigations are being carried out to find out his identity and purpose of coming to the village.
