Nashik: A construction worker died, and two others suffered injuries after the side walls at a building site collapsed in the city's Govind Nagar area on Feb 17.
The police have since registered a case under BNS sections 105 (culpable homicide not amounting to murder) and 290 (negligent conduct at the construction site) against the developer, contractor, construction company and others.
The incident occurred at a site where the basement of a building was being constructed. The side walls caved in on workers in a 22ft pit, trapping three casual workers. One of them died at a hospital on Saturday, while the other two are still under treatment.
The deceased worker has been identified as Nagendra Yadav (24), from Uttar Pradesh. The injured men are Nitai Gharami (24) and Ratan Biswas (40), both from West Bengal.
"In the incident, three men were injured. One of them died. The site inspection showed a lack of application of safety measures, including barricading to prevent sides from caving in. It appears safety jackets, gloves, and safety shoes were also not provided as per the labour laws," said inspector Vishwas Patil, of the Mumbai Naka police.
"After the accident, the other workers at the site pulled the three men out from under the debris and shifted them to a local hospital. The condition of the deceased was grim, and he died while undergoing treatment. The condition of the other two is now said to be stable. They are recuperating," said Patil.
The police registered the complaint against six people.
