Case against former Ahilyanagar mayor for rape of woman

Nashik:Ahilyanagar's MIDC police registered a case of rape against a former mayor of the city following a complaint by a 25-year-old woman from Shirur in Pune.Senior Ahilyanagar police officers said the whereabouts of the accused are currently unknown, and efforts are being made to track him down and arrest him. The MIDC police have registered a case under sections 64 (punishment for rape) and 351 (criminal intimidation) of the BNS and other sections of the IT Act. The police said the complaint was registered early on Saturday.As per the complainant, she came in contact with the former mayor through social media and procured his phone number to check if he could manage to find her a job. However, on the pretext of giving her a job in Ahilyanagar, the man allegedly raped her multiple times at Vilad Ghat in Ahilyanagar, and also at a hotel in Shirur on Feb 18 this year, the complaint said.The complainant said the former mayor got physical with her without her consent, filmed their act and threatened that he would circulate the video on the internet. As per the complaint, he also threatened that he would kill the woman's daughter if she did not comply with his demands.Deputy superintendent of police Shirish Vamane said the case has been handed over to the inspector of the Tofkhana police station for investigation, as a section under the IT Act was also added in the FIR, and such cases were investigated by officers of at least inspector rank. The in-charge of the MIDC police station, where the FIR was registered, is an assistant inspector.
