6 killed in 3-vehicle accident at Amalner in Jalgaon district
Nashik: Six people, including three women, were killed and two others injured after a sedan, a state transport (ST) bus, and a motorcycle collided on the Amalner-Dhule highway near Mangrul village in Jalgaon district on Tuesday morning.
Deputy superintendent of police Vinayak Kote said, “The accident occurred around 7am, when a sedan travelling towards Amalner rammed a motorcycle from behind and then crashed into an oncoming ST bus, triggering a fatal chain collision.”
The deceased include two couples from Vyara in Gujarat’s Tapi district. They have been identified as Suresh Mahajan (60), Anita Mahajan (54), Nandlal Mahajan (38) and Nirmala Mahajan (36). Nilesh Tavde (25) and Sonal Javre (22), both residents of Jalgaon, are the other two who were killed in the accident. While Suresh, Nandlal, Nirmala, Nilesh and Sonal died on the spot, Anita succumbed to her injuries on the way to the hospital.
“The Mahajan family was travelling to Amalner to attend an engagement ceremony of a relative,” said inspector Dattatray Nikam of Amalner police station.
The impact of the crash was severe, leaving the car mangled. The driver of the sedan sustained a leg fracture, while a passenger in the ST bus suffered minor injuries.
Hearing the loud collision, local residents rushed to the spot and helped shift the injured to a nearby hospital. Senior police officers also reached the site soon after receiving information and oversaw the rescue operations.
Traffic on the busy highway was disrupted for some time due to the wreckage of the three vehicles. “Highway traffic was disrupted for some time, but has since resumed,” deputy SP Kote said.
The police said the Amalner–Dhule stretch is a single carriageway without a divider.
