Top cop’s surprise inspection at Pardi: 6 college students booked for substance abuse
Nagpur: In a late-evening operation, commissioner of police Ravinder Singal conducted a surprise inspection at Pardi police station and adjoining areas. This led to strong disciplinary action against on-duty officers and the detention of six private college students for consumption of drugs and alcohol. The surprise visit took place on April 29 from 8pm to 10pm, as part of the commissioner's ongoing campaign to monitor and improve ground-level policing across Nagpur. This was the fourth consecutive day of his unannounced field visits.Upon reaching Pardi police station, Singal found the inspector and the on-duty staff missing from their posts, and not engaged in patrolling or criminal investigation duties. He reprimanded the station in charge, ordered all staff out for immediate night patrolling, and issued instructions on foot patrolling, surveillance in vulnerable areas, and preventive policing measures. After the inspection, Singal proceeded to a private college near Prajapati Nagar metro station, based on complaints received about drug and alcohol consumption in the vicinity. His raid near the college campus caught six individuals — aged between 19 and 25 — consuming alcohol and allegedly engaging in illegal activities in a dark, secluded spot. The group included students from the college and nearby residential areas.Over the past few days, Singal has undertaken several surprise visits under various initiatives such as ‘Operation Garuda' to crack down on traffic violations, helmetless riding, and triple seat driving. He has also been pushing women's safety initiatives like the ‘Police Didi' program and cracking down on harmful social media content and suspicious online activity.Singal's stern stance on administrative lapses was evident during his recent visit to the MIDC police station, where he suspended three officers on the spot over unexplained absences. He further warned that officers misusing medical leave status without justification would be required to submit medical reports or face disciplinary action. MSID:: 120769120 413 |
