Resident docs end strike as salary hike approved

Nagpur: Resident doctors at government medial colleges across Maharashtra have called off their strike following a late-night decision by the state cabinet on Sunday to increase their salary by ₹10,000 per month, effective from March 1, 2024.The strike, which began on Thursday evening, had raised concerns about potential disruptions in patient care, particularly on Monday when there is heavy rush of patients at GMCs. Patients visiting GMCs faced longer wait due to the absence of resident doctors who play a crucial role of assisting senior doctors. The Maharashtra Association of Resident Doctors office-bearers expressed gratitude towards the state govt and deputy chief minister Ajit Pawar for addressing their concerns. With the strike ending, patients can expect shorter waiting time in OPDs and wards, and resumption of elective surgeries that had been postponed.tnn
