Private hospital shuts down as flood water cripples power supply

Nagpur: Wockhardt Hospital at Shankar Nagar had to evacuate all their over 100 patients after flood water from Nag river damaged the retaining wall of canal just behind its building and entered the basement. Hospital officials said around 28 patients from the ICU, including some on ventilator and bipap, and others in wards had to be shifted to other hospitals. The hospital had to also put off planned surgeries due to the crisis. After the power supply snapped, the hospital couldn’t use its back-up, which was in the water-logged basement. “The electrical control panel needs to be replaced. It cannot be restored within an hour or two but will need three days to come back to normal,” said an official.The official said they had no choice but to shift the patients. “The rescue started at 5.30am and went on till late on Saturday evening. Those on ventilator were shifted first followed by other patients. There was no casualty,” the official said.The NMC fire department reached the hospital but it was occupied with clearing the waterlogging.

Hospitals grapple with waterlogging

Heavy rainfall in Indore has caused waterlogging and seepages in buildings, leading to the shifting of wards in MY hospital, the largest public facility in the state. Over three feet of water accumulated in the hospital's basement, forcing the authorities to relocate 25 patients. Prisoners were shifted to a ward near the burn unit, while destitute elderly patients were moved to another ward. The hospital has requested police deployment to prevent prisoner escapes. The newly constructed MTH hospital also experienced flooding, with its lift rendered non-functional.

Private hospitals in Kolkata have restarted their fever clinics to screen patients with dengue symptoms as the queue of patients waiting for admission continues to grow. Most hospitals are admitting only those with severe symptoms, while others are being advised to take medication and report if their condition worsens. Hospitals such as Medica Superspecialty Hospital, Woodlands Hospital, Desun Hospital, Peerless Hospital, and AMRI Hospitals have all implemented fever clinics or screening facilities to manage the increasing number of dengue patients.

Several hospitals in Delhi witnessing surge in dengue patients

Hospitals in Delhi are reporting an increase in dengue patients, although the city's civic body has not released reports on vector-borne diseases for several weeks. A 38-year-old woman died from dengue at the RML Hospital, making her the fourth dengue patient to die at the hospital this season. Doctors are urging timely diagnosis and medical attention, as well as prevention through mosquito-control measures. The current dengue outbreak is caused by an aggressive strain. The MCD has taken measures to combat dengue, including examining over 2.85 crore places for mosquito larvae breeding.
