‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’ enthralls audience

Nagpur: A nice blend of old and new Hindi songs presented at ‘Mile Sur Mera Tumhara’, a music programme organized by Sargam and Deep Foundation to mark Republic Day, saw many heads sway to the lilting tunes at Sai Sabhagruh, Shankar Nagar, on Saturday.

The evening commenced with national song ‘Sare jahan se achha’. Other songs like ‘Meri kahani bhoolne wale’, ‘Jadoo teri nazar’, ‘Ajeeb dastan hai yeh’, ‘Bhanvre ki gunjan’ and ‘Chand sifarish jo karta hamari’ were a huge hit among the spectators.

The show reached a high point with ‘Dekha jo tujhe yaar dil mein baji guitar’ with the audience dancing and the hall reverberating with loud claps. A few memorable songs of Lata Mangeshkar like ‘Aapki nazron ne samjha’, ‘Ja re ja re ud ja re panchhi’ and ‘Hotho pe aisee baat’ were performed with aplomb.

Duets ‘Mera pyar bhi tu hi’, ‘Ho gaya hai tujhko toh pyar’, ‘Mehboob mere’, ‘Hasta hua noorani chehra’ and ‘Ye pardah hata do’ received a resounding response from the listeners.

Amateur singers like Abhay Vyas, Arvid Raje, Brijbhushan Sharma, Dhanashree Mandaukar, Hemant Darwekar, KV Ram, Manish Nair, Nandu Andhare, Parvathi Nair, Priya Gupta, Purnima Joshi, Raju Tandle, Samir Jahagirdar, Shrikant Paithakar, Shrikant Sapre, Uma Raghuraman and Vilas Dandge impressed.

The accompanying artistes were Pawan Manwatkar (keyboard), Gaurav Rangari and Manna Dan (guitar), Raju Gajbhiye (congo), Vishal Dahasahastra (octopad) and Ganesh Thamke (tabla and dholak).

The programme was compèred by Pushpa Anand.

MV Unnikrishnan, who conceptualized the programme, told TOI he had introduced over 450 fresh singers over a period of time. This event was organized to give youngsters exposure to music of the golden era.
