Natya geets from the dramas written by noted playwright
The show started with an orchestral performance by the group consisting of women on sitar, violin, harmonium and tabla. A total of 20 women were part of the group who presented breathtaking classical music, giving the audience a look into the beauty of Indian melody.
In the second part of the show, singers presented songs from Gokhale’s plays. The first song was the titular ‘Saptasur jhankarit bole’ by Vishakha Mangde. Sanika Ruikar sang the famous ‘Yetil kadhi yaduveer’ and ‘Kon asasi tu na kale majala.’ Deepa Dharmadhikari, Saroj Deodhar, Anuradha Padhye and Vidya Borkar were the other singers.
The group also presented ‘Ragini mukh chandrama’, ‘Vasant ki bahar aayi’, ‘Ruturaj aaj vani aala’ and ‘Narayana Rama Ramana’, among others. Songs like ‘Kon hi sundara’ and ‘Dhansampada na lage mala’ entertained the audience. The show concluded with Hindi song ‘Yeh mausam hain rangeen’.
Kulkarni congratulated the group on completion of 25 years, saying that in today’s age, people do not have patience to wait for a long period of time to nurture their art. He criticized the attitude of some artistes of this generation who want quick recognition. Kulkarni shed light on the dying embers of classical music and appreciated the group’s efforts to keep it alive.
Apte spoke highly of the group for making it so far along and providing a platform for Indian classical music to grow.
The show was conceptualized by Nandini Sahastrabuddhe. Anjali Parandiwar conducted the proceedings.
