Constable held for sexual assault on pretext of marriage

Akola: A police constable posted in Akola has been arrested for allegedly sexually assaulting a young woman under the pretext of marriage.The accused, Sachin Gaikwad, was serving as a driver in the Motor Transport (MT) department of the Akola Police. According to the complaint filed by the survivor, she met Gaikwad while undergoing training for police recruitment.Police officials said that the accused gradually developed a relationship with the woman and allegedly promised to marry her. Taking advantage of her trust, he repeatedly sexually assaulted her over a period of time.The matter came to light after the survivor realised that she had been deceived. She then approached the Kotwali police station in Akola and lodged a complaint, after which the police registered a case against Gaikwad and took him into custody.Officials confirmed that a case has been registered under relevant sections. Senior officials stated that strict action will be taken against the accused.
