Siddaramaiah advises police to be patient, humane
Mysuru: Chief minister Siddaramaiah on Sunday advised police personnel to develop discipline, patience, and human approach while performing their duty, as such measures are a must for effective law enforcement in the state. They must also ensure justice, especially for oppressed people in the society, giving special protection to Scheduled Castes, Scheduled Tribes, women, and other vulnerable sections in the society. Even the Constitution of India was also upheld to provide justice to weaker sections of the society. He was speaking after receiving the guard of honour at the Passing Out Parade of the 46th batch of police sub-inspector (civil) at the Karnataka Police Academy in Mysuru. He asked the police to be people-friendly, treat people with respect, especially women, children, and elderly citizens, apart from upholding their professional integrity. But police should not be friendly towards criminals; by the same approach, they should be tough on criminals, anti-social elements, must not show mercy on criminals, take stern action against them for maintenance of law and order, civil obedience, for establishment of peace in society. The CM cited that Mahatma Gandhi strongly believed that true Independence of India would only be achieved when women walked freely on streets at midnight. Police have greater responsibility in ensuring the security of women in the state, he said. The CM advised the newly passed-out PSIs to strive hard for maintenance of law and order, utilise their skills, knowledge of what they learnt during their police training for betterment of the society. The CM urged the police to make the state free from drugs by rooting out its network completely in the state, as a large number of youths, students are becoming vulnerable to such instant fantasies, not only ruining their life but also threatening societal health. Police have to deal with cyber crimes, which are now increasing, apart from dealing with routine crimes, he said. The CM said that the govt also initiated a slew of measures to strengthen the state police force. The govt has recruited 4,911 police personnel, including 327 police sub-inspectors, in the last three years. The govt is planning to recruit 8,000 police personnel in next two years.Home minister G Parameshwara, Mysuru district minister HC Mahadevappa, sericulture minister K Venkatesh, MLAs Tanveer Sait and TS Srivatsa, DGP MA Saleem, ADGP (training) Devajyoti Ray, KPA director N Vishnuvardhana, and deputy director Channabasanna were present.Among the 327 who passed out during 42nd batch of police sub-inspector, 90 were women.Among the 327 PSIs, 127 have BE degrees, one a bachelor of dental sciences, and 56 have PG degrees like MA/MSc/MSW.The highest number of 51 candidates were selected form Belagavi district, followed by Vijayapura (33), Bagalkot (31), Tumakuru (19), Haveri, Mysuru, Kalaburagi, Yadgir, and Hassan each (12), Vijayanagar (10).Anilkumar Thippanna from Gadag district received Sarvathomma Police Award from the CM for overall best performance during the training, followed by Shambhavi from Haveri district in the women's category.
