Mysuru city police help recover lost mobile phones through CEIR portal
Mysuru: Mysuru city police are silently helping scores of mobile phone users in getting back their lost mobile phones. All thanks to the Central Equipment Identity Register (CEIR) portal that has emerged as an effective support system for the public. The portal's URL is https://share.google/pfWZ3xlJ0wKpIJqoO. It has become a useful tool in helping people trace and recover lost or stolen mobile phones in a relatively short time.Metagalli police recently helped two women recover their lost mobile phones. Using the CEIR portal, officers traced the devices and returned them to the rightful owners. Similarly, Krishnaraja police used the portal to help a senior citizen retrieve a lost phone.Kiran, another beneficiary, was relieved to get his smartphone back within a month. He thanked the Devaraja police for tracing and returning the device. Kiran said he lost the phone while travelling on a bus—he had kept it in his shirt pocket, and it went missing after he alighted. He filed a complaint with Devaraja police on Feb 19, and nearly a month later, the phone was restored to him.Kiran said the loss of his mobile caused immediate inconvenience and anxiety, as he had to arrange an alternate device and obtain a new SIM card. Apart from the financial loss, he was particularly worried that his personal data, including contacts, might be misused.Police explained that when a mobile phone is lost, the user should immediately log on to the CEIR portal to block the handset and track its usage through the unique IMEI number. Once the information is registered, the system can identify the phone's location and generate details about the person or SIM card currently being used in the device. This data is extremely useful for law enforcement agencies during investigations.Officials noted that the CEIR portal has proven to be a practical and efficient tool for recovering smartphones. The data available on the portal helps police track the movement of the device and identify those in possession of it. In Kiran's case, the man who lifted the phone had sold it to another person for a small sum. As soon as the new user inserted a SIM card, the number was detected, enabling police to intervene and ensure the phone was returned. The CEIR portal has significantly reduced the difficulties faced by mobile users after losing their devices. It also serves a broader public purpose by discouraging the illegal sale and purchase of stolen mobile phones. The portal has therefore reduced the difficulties faced by mobile users after losing their devices. The CEIR portal also serves a larger public purpose by discouraging the illegal sale and purchase of stolen mobile phones.Commissioner of police Seema Latkar said officers at the station level are effectively using the CEIR portal, which has come in handy for the police, to trace the lost phones of many users.
