Main Yoga Day at Mysuru Palace will start at 6am
Mysuru: The 12th International Yoga Day will be celebrated on June 21 at the Mysuru Palace premises under the aegis of the district administration, said additional deputy commissioner R Aishwarya.
Chairing a preparatory meeting at the DC’s office on Monday, Aishwarya emphasised that yoga should not be confined to a single day of observance but should become an integral part of daily life. She said the practice of yoga strengthens muscles and nerves, improves overall health, and contributes to physical and mental well-being. The main Yoga Day programme will be held from 6am to 8am, during which participants will perform a series of yoga asanas and breathing exercises as part of the common yoga protocol. She appealed to yoga institutions, trainers and the public to participate in large numbers and make the event a grand success. She also welcomed suggestions and innovative ideas to enhance the programme.
To ensure smooth conduct of the event, the additional deputy commissioner directed the Mysuru City Corporation to make arrangements for cleanliness and drinking water facilities, while the Mysuru Palace Board was instructed to provide stage and sound systems. Mysuru City police has been asked to ensure adequate security and crowd management.
District AYUSH officer Dr Renuka Devi announced that under the Daily Yoga initiative, an online platform will be made available to the public from June 22, enabling citizens to practise yoga throughout the year. Srihari, head of the Yoga Federation, said efforts are under way to transform Mysuru into a yoga hub. As part of the initiative, yoga demonstrations are planned at 120 locations across the district on June 21, with a target of engaging 1.2 lakh participants under the guidance of 1,200 trained instructors.
The official International Yoga Day poster was released during the meeting. Assistant commissioner of police Raghavendra, tourism department assistant director Prabhu, and representatives of various yoga institutions attended the meeting.
