Madikeri: A grower was killed in an elephant attack in Karadigodu village near Siddapur. Kukkunur Purushotham, 78, a resident of Karadigodu village, died on the spot after an attack by a tusker.
Purushotham went to the plantation near his house around 4.30pm on Friday and did not return even after 6pm. Immediately, his relative Kukkunur Mohan started searching the coffee plantation along with local youth.
At the time, an elephant was seen roaming near the coffee plantation. In the meantime, as the search continued, it came to light that Purushotham was trampled to death by an elephant. He immediately informed the forest department officials.
Virajpet range forest officer Shivaram and State Wildlife Board member Sanketh Poovaiah rushed to the spot and conducted an inspection. Later, in the presence of locals, Purushotham's body was shifted from the coffee plantation to the mortuary of Siddapur Community Health Center.
It may be recalled that the victim Purushotham's brother Mohandas also died in a wild elephant attack in the coffee plantation four years ago. The deceased is survived by his wife and a daughter.
