Greater Mys project stalled as govt is yet to receive proposal from MCC

Mysuru: Greater Mysuru project is likely to get delayed as the government recently clarified that it hasn’t received any proposal from the local body on this score. Now, Mysuru City Corporation (MCC) is planning to discuss the issue and send a proposal to the government.
A series of meetings were held both in Mysuru and Bengaluru to discuss the formation of Bruhat Mysuru City Corporation (greater Mysuru City Corporation) by merging the nearby areas for a decade.
On April 11, 2022, a meeting chaired by then district in charge minister ST Somashekhar unanimously decided to form the Bruhat Mysuru City Corporation by merging Kadakola, Bogadi, Srirampura, and Rammanahalli town panchayats, Hootagalli city municipal council, besides Chamundi Betta, Alanahalli, Siddalingapura, and Ilawala gram panchayat, but the proposal has taken back seat.
Replying to a question raised by Chamundeshwari constituency MLA GT Devegowda in the ongoing assembly session, municipal administration minister Rahim Khan informed that the state government has not received any proposal on the formation of the greater Mysuru City Corporation.
This comes as a big shocker for Mysuru residents, especially those who are living on the city outskirts, as they are yet to get clean and safe drinking water and garbage collection facility. “Garbage collection is done once in two-three days, no clean drinking water is supplied by the Bogadi town panchayat. We are dependent on the borewell water which is unfit for human consumption. Formation of the greater Mysuru City Corporation at the earliest is the only solution. Now the government must act immediately,” said Saraswathi HK, a resident of Halli Bogadi.
BS Prashant, chairman of the Federation of Organisations and Associations of Mysuru urged chief minister Siddaramaiah to look into the issue. “When we think of modern Bengaluru, we remember (CM) SM Krishna. Similarly, Siddaramaiah should make Mysuru a world-class city,” he urged.
MCC mayor M Shivakumar said that no proposal has been sent to the state government on the formation of the Greater Mysuru City Corporation. “On July 28, we will approve a proposal at the MCC council meeting, which will be sent to the state government,” he said.
