Govt functionaries welcome students as schools reopen
Chikkamagaluru: Schools reopened on Monday after the summer break, and children who came to school were given a warm welcome by teachers and representatives of people.
MLA HD Thammaiah and legislative council member SL Bhojegowda visited the Govt Primary and High School at Basavanahalli to welcome the students, and they distributed sweets and roses to each one of them.
Thammaiah said that govt schools have all basic facilities and skilled teachers. Students will get good education here, and govt has provided all facilities so that no student is deprived of education. Despite competition from private educational institutions, govt schools are providing quality education and achieving good results, he said.
“Parents should not have a feeling of inferiority that their children are studying in govt schools. Today, we see people who studied in govt schools holding high positions. MLC SL Bhojegowda studied in govt schools and went on to become a member of the council and serve as a lawyer. I too studied in a govt school and am an MLA today,” he said.
Bhojegowda said that every year on the school reopening day, they select one school to welcome children. This time, Basavanahalli school was chosen, and the teachers too welcomed students with enthusiasm. Participating in this programme is the primary duty, and the aim is to encourage students to have an interest in learning, he said.
Another purpose of our visit as elected representatives is to provide necessary infrastructure to schools, he said. “Govt schools have delivered good results. Vacant teacher posts need to be filled to ensure even better quality education,” he added.
School Development Committee president and former municipal president Varasiddi Venugopal, block education officer Rudrappa, and schoolteachers were present.
