According to police, Siddesh Doke, a resident of NM Joshi Marg, had gone to his Ratnagiri home for Ganpati festival after locking his house in Byculla. On August 27, someone broke into his house in Vinayak Vasudev Chawl and decamped with gold ornaments and cash totalling Rs 4 lakh. On his return, he lodged an FIR with NM Joshi Marg police and the crime branch started a parallel investigation.

Crime branch officials last week arrested Shakir Shaikh alias Guddu who admitted to the crime. During probe, police found that Malika Shaikh, a resident of Mumbra, allegedly helped Guddu in the crime.
