Somaiya, who had made an application to cyber police, was on Tuesday called by the east region cyber police, who recorded his statement. At the time of going to press, cyber police were in the process of registering an FIR against Sutar and Thatte.

Police sources said the offence would be registered under Section 500 (defamation) of Indian Penal Code and under Sections 67-A and 66-E of the Information Technology Act. Somiaya in his complaint has alleged that Sutar and Thatte published and circulated his personal video on social media and defamed him. He has also said that though there were no more videos, they claimed they had more 36 clips.

The city crime branch unit 10 probing the matter has recorded statements of Sutar and other channel officials and sent the clips to forensic experts to find out if the video was genuine or morphed and to know the original source of the video.
