Mumbai: Twelve years after he was booked in an Arms Act case for illegally possessing 12 live rounds of ammunition at his Andheri (W) home, a magistrate's court on Thursday acquitted double murder accused Vijay Palande.
Among the cases, Palande is accused of the 2012, murder of businessman Arunkumar Tikku (62). Tikku was found dead at his home in Oshiwara. Palande is also on trial in the murder of film producer Karankumar Kakkar. He has been in jail since arrest in 2012. Palande will not be released as he is an undertrial in the murder cases.
After Tikku's murder came to light, a search was conducted at Palande's home. The ammunition was allegedly found on May 17, 2012.
Denying the allegations, Palande, who argued in person, submitted before court that he was falsely implicated at the instance of the police and that the bullets were planted. It was further submitted that he had already spent 45 days in custody prior to this alleged discovery and recovery. "There were three house search panchanamas which already took place before this recovery and nothing was found...s," he submitted.
