Mumbai: Hundreds of Congress party workers gathered at the Birsa Munda Chowk (Picnic Point) at Aarey Colony on Thursday morning to vociferously protest against the proposed metro car shed project within Aarey.
The working president of Mumbai Congress, Charan Singh Sapra, besides other Congress leaders like Sanjay Nirupam and Bhai Jagtap, were also present at the protest venue.
“When the Maha Vikas Aghadi (MVA) government had moved the metro-3 car shed out of Aarey to the Kanjurmarg site, there were no objections to it as everyone knew this will be good for the environment. However, as soon as this new state government came to power, they reversed the decision and put the car shed plan back into Aarey. This led to huge protests as people do not want the green biodiversity to suffer. It shows that there is something terribly wrong with having this plan within Aarey,” said Sapra. He added that more protests will happen if the state government does not rethink on their “mistake” and finally shift the car shed to Kanjurmarg. The agitation was peaceful and many slogans were raised against the government and in support of the Save Aarey movement.
