'Rape case': T-Series MD Bhushan Kumar withdraws petition against FIR before Bombay HC, as magistrate accepts closure report
MUMBAI: T-Series chairperson and managing director Bhushan Kumar withdrew his petition against an FIR lodged against him in an alleged rape case.
His lawyer sought to withdraw the petition after a magistrate court accepted a closure report filed by the Mumbai police in the rape case.
Kumar is the son of the late music baron Gulshan Kumar. In July 2021 an FIR was filed by a woman accusing him of allegedly repeatedly sexually assaulting her between September 2017 and August 2022 on the pretext of giving her a job in his music record label and film production company.
A division bench of Justice Prakash D Naik and Justice Nitin R Borkar accepted the submission of Kumar’s lawyers that his writ plea had become infructuous due to the development before the magistrate court and allowed him to withdraw his plea.
While the magistrate court last year had rejected the first closure report filed by the police and had asked them to investigate further, it accepted the second ‘B-summary’ closure report this year for being a false case lodged against him.
On Thursday, advocate Niranjan Mundargi representing Kumar informed the high court that the Andheri Metropolitan Magistrate court accepted the closure report on November 9.
