Power outage in Turbhe-Vashi leaves residents sleepless for four days
Navi Mumbai: Angry residents barged into the Maharashtra State Electricity Distribution Company Limited (MSEDCL) office in Turbhe on Monday night after repeated power cuts in the Turbhe-Vashi area left them without electricity for four days since last Saturday.
Thousands of power consumers in the Turbhe area were affected after a power failure began from 11 pm on Saturday. Residents across multiple localities reported prolonged outages through the night and well into the next day, during unusual night slots, and said they spent sleepless nights for the last four days even during extreme summer.
Residents said they struggled without fans, air conditioners, and basic household services. Children and elderly people felt the pinch as they suffered from sleepless nights. Many families said the heat made it difficult for children and elderly members to rest, while others faced disruptions to water supply, mobile charging and small home businesses.
Residents of the Turbhe area complained of unprecedented power outages with the advent of summer and said authorities did not address their grievances, which led them to take out a late night morcha to the MSEDCL office.
“Despite repeated complaints and follow-ups by affected consumers, the power provider did not restore electricity for four days, leaving people frustrated,” said Rohan Patil, a resident. The incident triggered anger over delayed response and lack of timely updates from officials.
MSEDCL officials admitted there was power failure in various sectors of the Turbhe-APMC area and said the power supplier was making an all out effort to resolve the problems. MSEDCL said it was an underground cable fault. Officials said the fault line was not detected for hours, which pushed the no-supply hours further.
MSEDCL superintendent engineer Deepak Patil said “We are trying to fix the problem and restore the supply permanently. A major restoration work has been carried out in the problem areas where the cables are too old and developed disruption. Our team will finish the job at the earliest.”
Manohar Shinde, another resident, said, “This is not the first time that a power cut was witnessed. Our Sector 22 and 23 area has been badly hit by the frequent power failures, irrespective of the season. Cable replacement is required to withstand the load due to an increase in the number of consumers over the years, leading to erratic power supply.”
