Arms used to kill Siddique got from Pak, via Raj: Police

Mumbai: With the accused "refusing to cooperate band providing misleading statements", the investigation into the murder of former MLA and NCP leader Baba Siddique is progressing at a snail's pace, police said. Two of the accused, Bhagwant Omsingh and Ramphool Kanojia, gave conflicting versions about delivery of three foreign-made weapons used in the crime.Police officials expressed suspicion that the weapons used in the murder may have originated from Pakistan, being smuggled into India through Rajasthan border . Both accused claimed they were strangers until they met in Udaipur, said sources. Their handlers allegedly provided only descriptions and meeting locations, with all three individuals convening at the designated spot to receive the weapons. "The accused are employing old tactics to mislead and delay the probe. Our investigation now focuses on identifying the source of these weapons," a police official said. A magistrate's court extended custody of four accused — Gurmai Singh, Dharamraj Kashyap, Harish Nishad, and Praveen Lonkar — till Oct 25.
