Advocate Rui Rodrigues told a division bench of Justices Anoop Mohta and Bharati Dangre that a special committee had been set up to expedite confidential results to be sent to foreign universities and other local universities for students wanting to pursue further studies. “The committee has received nearly 1,000 applications and almost all requests were considered depending on urgency,” he added.

The court, after noting the assurance, adjourned the case for further hearing of petitions on August 31.

One petition was filed by 22-year-old Bandra resident and aspiring law student, Sydyumna Nargolkar. He urged the court to restrain the authorities from going ahead with law college admissions and declare BA/BSc/BCom results. “As Mumbai University has not declared the results, around 2,200 students from Mumbai will not be able to participate in the common admission process and will be able to do it only in the third round. By that time seats for most sought-after law colleges will be filled by students from outside Mumbai,” senior advocate Mukesh Vashi had said at an earlier hearing.

Another petition was filed by final year law college students Sachin Pawar, Abhishek Bhat and Ravishekhar Pandey who have demanded that the results be declared within three days or they should be paid Rs 10 lakh as compensation. The trio claimed due to the delay in announcement of results, their careers were at stake as they were unable to apply for post-graduate courses or even jobs.
