Massive metro expansion push
Mumbai Metro network is set for a major expansion, reaching nearly 90 km with multiple projects rolled out together. This marks one of the biggest multi-corridor transport upgrades in the Mumbai Metropolitan Region in a single phase.
Key corridors launched
Two major metro corridors—Line 9 (Dahisar East to Kashigaon) and Line 2B Phase 1 (Mandale to Diamond Garden)—are part of the rollout, enhancing connectivity across critical suburban and urban stretches.
Total network strength
The metro network will touch a total operational length of 89.8 km with the addition of multiple lines, strengthening east-west and north-south connectivity across Mumbai and adjoining regions.
Multiple lines activated together
Key lines include Line 1 (11.4 km), Line 7 (16.5 km), Line 2A (18.6 km), Line 3 (33.5 km), Line 2B Phase 1 (5.3 km), and Line 9 Phase 1 (4.5 km), forming an integrated transit grid.
Rollout timeline announced
- The inauguration is scheduled for April 7, while passenger services across the new corridors will begin from April 8, marking a swift transition from launch to public use.
Metro 9 expands reach
Metro Line 9 will connect Dahisar East to Kashigaon, creating the first metro link into Thane district, improving accessibility and easing inter-district travel for commuters.
Metro 2B phase 1 connectivity
Metro 2B Phase 1 will run from Mandale to Diamond Garden, offering improved access in eastern Mumbai and linking key residential and commercial zones.
Integrated corridor benefits
Lines 7 and 9 will operate as an integrated corridor from Gundavali to Kashigaon, improving seamless travel and reducing interchange hassles for daily commuters.
Operational changes on line 2A
Metro Line 2A (Yellow Line) from Andheri West to Dahisar East will now function as a standalone corridor, with Dahisar becoming a key interchange for passengers of Lines 7 and 9.
Infrastructure projects progress
Major infrastructure works include the Thane-Borivali twin tunnel project, expected to cut travel time significantly, and the BKC pod taxi project aimed at improving last-mile connectivity.
