Mumbai: It was yet another hot day for Mumbai on Thursday as maximum temperatures recorded by IMD’s Santacruz observatory touched 38.7 degrees Celsius. The weather bureau has forecast that heat wave conditions to occur in isolated pockets of the city.
On Thursday, the maximum temperature recorded by the IMD Colaba observatory was 36.4 degrees while it was 35.4 a day earlier. IMD’s Santacruz observatory recorded maximum temperatures of 38.7 degrees as against a maximum of 38.1 a day earlier.
Mahesh Palawat, vice-president, Meteorology & Climate Change, Skymet Weather Services Pvt Ltd, said, “The rise in temperatures for Mumbai was owing to north easterly winds which were dry and hot coming in from the western parts of the country. These winds will persist over the next 24 hours. Delay in setting of sea breeze is causing spike in temperatures for the city.”
System of Air Quality Weather Forecasting and Research said Mumbai’s overall air quality index for PM 2.5 on Thursday was 283 — up from 239 a day earlier.
