Man beheads security supervisor over work conflict arrested from Sangli
THANE: The crime branch arrested an accused from Sangli in connection with the murder of a security supervisor who was beheaded. The accused has been identified as Prasad Kadam, who murdered Somnath Debnath late on Sunday.
He was tracked down by the crime branch unit-5, led by senior inspector Vikas Ghodke. Later, he was handed over to the Kapurbawdi police station.
According to police, the motive behind this gruesome act appears to be rooted in a history of workplace conflict. The accused allegedly harboured deep-seated resentment towards the victim, citing a pattern of persistent verbal abuse and physical assaults at their place of employment. "Kadam had also given Rs 8,000 to the deceased, which he asked Debnath to return, however, the deceased refused and verbally abused him a couple of times," said a police officer.
The investigation has uncovered that Kadam had a documented history of mental health issues. Police said that the he had been prescribed psychiatric medication but had not been adhering to the treatment regimen. This lapse in mental health care is being considered a significant factor in the case.
Investigations also found that the suspect was known to be an avid viewer of crime-based television series. Police are exploring the possibility that exposure to such content may have influenced the nature of the attack or any other motivation that might have triggered the attack.
The police also said that they had found a written note by Kadam wherein he has mentioned vague things, including his love for animals and his vague future plans.Sleuths are continuing thorough investigation into all aspects of the case. Police are working to piece together the full timeline of events leading up to the tragic incident.
Kadam was produced in court and remanded to police custody for further investigations.
