According to the Boisar MIDC fire brigade, the fire broke out in the plant of the Mohini Organics Private Limited in the afternoon. The flashover fire spread to three other units causing a series of explosions. Three men sustained injuries after glass bottles burst and landed on them while trying to move goods to safety, said a fire officer.

The entire area which falls under the Tarapur Chemical Zone was evacuated and power supply was discontinued. The Boisar MIDC fire brigade along with Palghar and Tarapur Atomic Power Station firemen began douzing the flames.

The entire plant that manufacturers, supplies and exports surfactants, emulsifiers and fatty acid esters, suffered huge losses in the fire. Smoke made cooling operations a difficult task for the firemen.

As the fire from the plant spread to three other units also manufacturing chemicals, there was a series of explosions as drums filled with chemicals went up in flames.
