‘Cong should’ve been allotted 3 seats in city’

Mumbai: Congress should have got three seats in Mumbai in MVA’s seat-sharing formula, city party chief Varsha Gaikwad said on Thursday. She said she had taken up the issue with the Congress leadership in the state and in Delhi.

Of the six Lok Sabha seats in the city, Mumbai South, South-Central, North-East and North-West were allotted to Shiv Sena (UBT), and Mumbai North and North-Central to Congress, which upset many in the ‘grand old party’.

“In the past, Congress used to contest five seats in Mumbai, and [undivided] NCP one. So, we were expecting to get three seats...and the ones we have fought consistently…like South-Central and North-West...I had said...we should get a fair share in seat allocation...to party leaders in Maharashtra and in Delhi....though some of our leaders have left the party, our organisation in Mumbai is strong,” she said. “But now the party has taken a stand and it is my duty to follow its orders.” — Chaitanya Marpakwar
