MUMBAI: A doctor while trying to buy samosas from a known eatery in Sion, ended up losing Rs 1.4 lakh to cyber fraud. The 27-year-old doctor works at KEM hospital.

On July 8, as he was travelling to Karjat with his colleagues, he ordered 25 plates of samosas from Guru Krupa hotel at Sion, after coming across its contact number online. The accused made the victim pay an advance sum of Rs 1,500. Following this, the victim received a message saying, "25 plates of samosas will be picked up from the shop at 1pm.

In another message the accused sent him bank details for the payment. The man who claimed to be calling from the eatery asked the victim to send him the screenshots of the payments. The accused told the victim that now he will have to create a transaction Id and asked him to open Google pay app.

He told him to enter the number 28807 in the app and add Guru Krupa returns in the notes tab. As the Google pay app was linked to Axis bank account Rs 28,807 got deducted from the victim's account.

When he inquired the accused assured him that the refund will be credited to his account if he follows the instructions. However, later he lost Rs 50,000 more followed by Rs 19,991 and Rs 40,000. Thereafter, he registered an FIR with the Bhoiwada police.
