2 women on scooter die in crash with car in Vashi

Navi Mumbai: Two women riding a scooter died in a collision between their two-wheeler and a car in Vashi early Sunday, around 6.45 am. The car driver sped soon after the collision, the police said.The women, Kamothe resident Sanskruti Khokale (22) was declared ‘brought dead' at NMMC Hospital, Vashi while the pillion rider, Anjali Pandey (22), who had sustained grievous injury, died during treatment at the hospital.The women, who worked at a BPO in Turbhe MIDC, were returning home after completing their night shift. At a traffic signal near Kopri bridge, the scooter entered the wrong side, the police said, adding that the car and the scooter had a head-on collision. A criminal offence has been registered against the car driver. The registration number of the car has been obtained from CCTV footage, said senior inspector of APMC police station, Ajay Shinde. The car registration shows that its owner lives in Dombivli. A police team has been sent to track down the driver.
