MEERUT: A 25-year-old man allegedly shot his minor girlfriend before killing himself early Thursday as police moved in to rescue the girl in the Dibai area of Bulandshahr.
Bulandshahr SSP Dinesh Kumar Singh said the teenage girl, from Chhappar police station area in Muzaffarnagar, had eloped with her lover from Haridwar on September 20. A kidnapping case under Section 137 of the BNS Act was registered at Chhappar police station on September 22.
The couple was living in a rented house in Sarai Kishanchand area, Dibai. Around 3:30 am on Thursday, Muzaffarnagar police, along with the man’s uncle Pramod Kumar and three villagers including the village head, reached the house to recover the girl.
Pramod called out to his nephew from outside, assuring him that the police were with him and asked him to open the door. Soon after, gunshots were heard from the terrace of a neighboring house.
When the police rushed upstairs, they found both the man and girl were shot in the head. A country-made pistol, was recovered from the spot.They were rushed to the Community Health Centre (CHC) Dibai, where doctors declared them dead on arrival.
Prima facie, we suspect that the man shot the girl before killing himself. Bodies have been sent for post-mortem examination and further investigation is underway" SSP Singh told TOI.
