Meerut: A joint team of health officials and police from
Uttar Pradesh and
Haryana busted an illegal interstate foetal sex determination racket in Amroha on Wednesday, arresting six people.
Acting on repeated leads, a raid was conducted at a house in Chak Ki Madaiya Sataida village. The syndicate allegedly used middlemen to bring pregnant women from Delhi and Haryana to the remote location for illegal prenatal tests using a portable ultrasound machine.
The accused charged clients heavily, with fees ranging between ₹35,000 and ₹48,500 per test.
During the operation, the main accused, Devendra, attempted to escape but was apprehended after a 1.5 km chase through agricultural fields. Authorities seized the portable ultrasound machine and recovered ₹1.33 lakh in cash.
Hasanpur SHO Rajesh Kumar Tiwari confirmed that a case is being registered against the six detainees under relevant sections based on the health department’s complaint.
